William Keyser Atchinson, Jr. passes away September 28, 2006


 One of the founders and a motivating force in establishing the Hall in Oneonta NY, William K Atchinson, Jr. passed away today, Thursday September 28, 2006. 

 William Keyser Atchinson Jr., 73, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born May 27, 1933 in Stamford, the son of William K. and Ethel (Stickles) Atchinson.
Bill married Joyce H. Roberts on August 27, 1955 in Oneonta.

He was a graduate of Oneonta High School, Class of 1951, Hartwick College, Class of 1955 and the  Albany Law School, Class of 1958.

Bill was the co-owner of Oneonta Agency and was a self employed attorney. He was a member of the Oneonta First Presbyterian Church, the Oneonta Country Club where he was on the board of directors and the president of the Men's Golf Association.  He was a member of the Oneonta Elks Club B.P.O.E. 1312, a director of Trout Unlimited and Little Delaware Club.  Bill originated and was a director of the Coaches Club at Hartwick College and he was a former Alumni board member of the Hartwick College and Citizens Board.  He was a co-founder of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. He created and sponsored the Otsego County Golf Tournament, in memory of his father, the Atchinson Cup.   Bill also was the president of Oneonta and Otsego County Bar Association and was an acting Oneonta City Judge.

Bill was an avid fisherman, hunter, bowler and golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce R. Atchinson of Oneonta; 3 children, William K. Atchinson III and his wife, Deborah, of Scottsdale, AZ, Robert Atchinson and his wife, Michelle, of Lexington, MA and Karen A. Hart and her husband, Kenneth, of Oneonta; grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, Robert, Emily, Daniel, Katherine and Christine; a sister, Barbara Atchinson Harrison and her husband, John Robert Harrison; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Richard B. Roberts and his wife, Nancy C. Roberts.
