William Jeffery


Bill played semi-professional soccer in Scotland before coming to the United States in the teens of the 20th century, where he played for Altoona, Homestead, Braddock and Bethlehem.

Died: January 7, 1966 - Boalsburg, PA

While acting as player-manager of Altoona in 1925 he took his team to play the college team at Penn State. There he was offered a job as coach of the college team and the rest is history as Jeffrey continued to coach at Penn State from 1925 until well into the 1960's winning ten national college championships. He is best known as the coach of the U.S. World Cup team in 1950.
