Matthew Boxer


Matt first began playing for a juvenile team in China and in 1923 was a member of a French team that won the championship in Shanghai.

Died: January 19, 1992 - Burlingame, CA

Arriving in San Francisco he played for the Polytechnic High School and the Mercury and French clubs and in 1938 played for the San Francisco All-stars against Los Angeles. He later coached Polytechnic before becoming president of the San Francisco F.A. Over the years held many positions on the San Francisco soccer scene particularly managing the visits of touring teams such as Hapoel, Plymouth Argyle, Glasgow Celtic, Manchester City and Dundee. He was highly instrumental in securing City Council financial support for the building of a soccer stadium and dressing rooms. In 1958 was named Junior Soccer Commissioner for the USSFA.
