William Hemmings


Began his playing career in his home town before moving to London in 1918 to play in the Wood Green League as a center halfback.

Died: August 26, 1978 - Chicago, IL

Came to the United States in 1921 and played for the German-American Soccer Club in the Lehigh Valley League. He moved to Minneapolis in 1933 and played for local teams there until 1938 when he shifted his activities to Chicago and played for Schwaben SC until the end of World War II. He served two years as vice president of the National League of Chicago before becoming president in 1947 and going on to serve 24 years in that position while the loop grew to 70 senior and 10 junior teams. He resigned in September of 1970 saying that he had become disillusioned with the game and the direction it was taking.
