Raised in Glasgow, Scotland where he played junior soccer for five seasons before coming to the United States in 1930.

Played with St. Mary’s Celtic from 1931 to 1938. Played in the New York State Cup and Metropolitan League Cup in 1934-35. St. Mary’s joined the American Soccer League in 1936, and he captained the squad in the U.S. Open Cup final in 1938. Played for the New York Americans 1939-40, Brooklyn Wanderers 1941-45 and Brookhattan Galicia 1945-1949. Turned to coaching in 1949, first with Brookhattan and Swiss F.C. Coached Brooklyn Celtic of the National Soccer League of New York from 1961-1968, winning three championships during his tenure. Served as president of National Soccer League of New York in 1968, and was named First Vice President in 1970.
