Andy played for
local club Stevenston from 1911 to 1913 and then saw military service
from 1913 to 1919.
Once World War
I was over he joined junior club Ardeer Thistle from 1919 to 1921 and
then moved on to Parkhead Juniors in Glasgow from 1921 to 1922. He moved to the U.S. in 1923 and went to
live in Gillespie, Illinois at first but soon decided to return home and on
his way back to Scotland visited a sister in Niagara Falls, New York. While
there he was persuaded to play in a local game and his abilities were spotted
by a scout for American Soccer League club Providence and it wasn't long
before he had signed for them, all plans of returning to Scotland forgotten. Auld played for Providence from 1924
to 1930 appearing in 277 games before the team moved to Fall River in
1931. Later he went on to play for Pawtucket and then he played for
Portuguese Sport Club from 1934 to 1935. However, he will always be remembered for being a member of the
U.S. World Cup team in 1930 where playing at left half he was considered
one of the most outstanding players of the tournament. Worked in the sheet metal business when he wasn't playing
soccer.
