Arnold Oliver


Arnie was one of the finest soccer players ever to come out of the New Bedford region.

Oliver began his 17 year playing career at age 14 with Quisset Mill. He led the local amateur club, the New Bedford Defenders to the U.S. Amateur championship in 1926 before turning professional. He played for a number of clubs in the American Soccer League from 1925 to 1931, including Shawsheen, New Bedford Whalers, J&P Coats, Pawtucket Rangers, Fall River Marksmen and Providence Gold Bugs. A member of the U.S. World Cup team in 1930. He concluded his career in 1938 with Santo Christos.
