Bart, and his older brother Jim, came to the U.S. in 1912 aboard the liner Caledonia to join their father who had emigrated in 1910. Bart was playing in Philadelphia for the New York Shipbuilding Company team in 1918 and later he and his brother starred for Philadelphia Hibernians.  He began his professional career in the American Soccer League playing for New York Football Club and then went on to star for Indiana Flooring, New York Nationals and New York Giants. He played for New York Nationals team that won the U.S. Open Cup in 1928 by beating the Chicago Bricklayers and one year later was a member of the team that won the Lewis Cup in a three game series over the New Bedford Whalers. He was also a member of the highly successful U.S. World Cup team in 1930 in Montevideo, Uruguay and scored the first goal ever scored by an American player in World Cup competition against Belgium. It was said that he had a beautiful tenor voice and was in great demand during the 1930 tour to entertain in the various places the U.S. players visited. Later early in 1932 he was a member of the New York Giants team that won the championship of the American Soccer League in a memorable two game series against the New Bedford Whalers.

Hall of Famer Spotlight: Bart and his father Jimmy are unique in the soccer world in that they are the only father and son, to have played for two different countries in international competition. more>
