Walter Dick


Dick came to the United States when he was 17 years old to live in Niagara Falls, New York. After a year with the Niagara Falls Rangers he was spotted by Sam Fletcher, the manager of the Providence team and made his debut for the American Soccer League team in 1924.

He quickly became a fixture in the team making 179 appearances and scoring 21 goals between 1924 and 1930. Moving on to Fall River and then Pawtucket Rangers, he was a member of the Rangers team that was on the losing side in the U.S. Open Cup finals of 1934 and 1935. It was as a member of the Rangers that he was selected for the World Cup team in 1934 and played in the game against Italy. In 1935 he was a guest player with the New York Americans for a series of games in Mexico. Played for the Kearny Scots-Americans during their run from 1937 to 1941 when the team won five consecutive American Soccer League championships. He also played for the American Soccer League All-Stars against the touring Scottish Football Association team in 1935.
