He began his career in the United States with the Newark Germans playing a first in the junior teams. Heavily influenced by the teams Hungarian international trainer Bela Szentmiklosky he came into his own with Newark and was a member of the team that won three consecutive German-American League championships in 1930-31, 1931-32 and 1932-33. He continued to play for the Germans when they switched to the American Soccer League at the start of the 1933-34 season and played for them until 1935. After that he played for McDonough S.C. in the West Hudson area in 1935, the Irish Americans of the ASL in 1937, Trenton Highlanders in 1938 and Paterson Dovers in 1939. But it was with the Philadelphia German-Americans of the American Soccer League from 1940 to 1953 that he made his name. He was with the teams that won ASL titles in 1942, 1944, 1947, 1948 and 1952. When released by the Philadelphia Americans he played for Elizabeth Soccer Club of New Jersey from 1954 to 1962 and then on to the Westfield Lions of the Italian League, before returning to where he started with Newark Germans, his playing career spanning well over 30 years.
